Right, so at the moment I'm running a fairly old rig from about 3 years ago and have slowly been upgrading the insides over the last year - new video card, more RAM, DVB tuner etc - with the goal of it being a standalone PVR/UPNP server/home document server that boots fast. It has to play nice with a PS3 and Win 7 as well as Ubuntu. The one thing I haven't really touched is storage and this is a bit of a bottle neck boot and speed wise (I think). At the moment I've got a couple of SATA drives (120GB) running Ubuntu 10.10 and MythTV and an old IDE HDD for the recordings. I've almost run out of space on these (DVB-T recordings are about 2GB an hour) so it is time to put in some more space. So here's what I'm going to do:
I've placed an order for a the new hard disks and they should hopefully arrive at the end of the week. I'll be opening up my PC box when these arrive and will detail what's currently inside my box before I do the install. That's it for now! Stay tuned for next update |
